Many people dream have had dreams about an ex-partner. Sometimes, these dreams are recurring and this often worries the dreamer, especially if the individual now has a new boyfriend or girlfriend. Many are left with questions. Does it mean they want to get back together with their ex? Does it mean their ex partner wants to get back together with them? Is the dream trying to tell them something about the ex, or about their current boyfriend or girlfriend?
The Meaning of a Dream About an Ex-boyfriend or Ex-girlfriend
Dreaming about an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend does not necessarily mean that the dreamer wants to get back together with the individual, although it is possible that’s the case. It can mean several things. An occasional dream about an ex-boyfriend or girlfriend can simply refer to the past, or it may symbolise a specific quality that's associated with the ex-partner.
For instance, if the ex-boyfriend was a daredevil stunt rider, he may be a symbol for daring in a dream. The dreamer may use him to represent their own feelings of being brave. Or, if the ex-girlfriend was a college lecturer, she may be a symbol for learning or education in a dream, and the dreamer may use her to represent their own aspirations to academic achievement.
If the dreamer is frequently dreaming of an ex, or if the ex is featured in a recurring dream, the significance of this dream symbol may be slightly different. In that case, the former partner may represent hopes of love that are not being satisfied at the current time or in the current relationship.
For instance, if the dreamer has the desire to be protected and looked after, they may dream of an ex-partner who made them feel safe. It may be that they have no partner at the current time, or that they have a partner, but the partner does not fully satisfy their need to feel protected and safe. Or, if the dreamer may have a desire to be admired, so the individual may dream of an ex who made them feel pride in their relationship.
A dream does not mean that the dreamer wants to get back with the former partner. It may, however, suggest this past relationship fulfilled certain needs; needs which are currently unfulfilled.
Meaning of Having Sex With an Ex in Dreams
When dreaming, it is common for both men and women to enter a stage of sexual arousal. In fact, it is said that a healthy man experiences an erection every time he dreams. So many believe that it's likely that women also experiences this kind of stimulus.
Sexual themes in a dream are often disguised as something else – a snake disappearing down a hole, for example. But a direct dream of sex suggests that the dreamer can now accept their own sexual urges.. A dream about having sex with an ex can be interpreted in different ways.
The dream could be harmless fantasy. Many people dream, at one time or another, of having sex with all kinds of people, even family members or animals. This is how sexuality explores its own meaning in the unconscious and does not indicate a desire to carry out the dreamed-of sex act in real life. For instance, the dreamer may dream their cat is kissing and licking them, and they are getting sexual pleasure from it. This often symbolises sexual pleasure at its most basic and uncomplicated level; it does not mean the dreamer wants to have sex with their cat.
On the other hand, repeated dreams or a recurring dream of having sex with an ex may indicate something more. The dream may suggest that the dreamer is not having their sexual needs, or some aspect of their sexual needs, fully satisfied at the current time. It may be that they do not have a partner, or they do have a partner but that partner is not fully satisfying some aspect of their sexual need.
